How Old Do You Have to Be to Vape in South Africa? Age Restrictions Explained
The legal age to purchase and use vaping products in South Africa is 18 years old. This applies to all nicotine-containing products including e-cigarettes, pod systems, disposable vapes, and e-liquid.
What the current law says
Under the Tobacco Products Control Act (TPCA) and its regulations, it is illegal to sell tobacco or tobacco-related products — including e-cigarettes — to anyone under the age of 18. Retailers are required to verify age before selling these products.
What the proposed Tobacco Bill adds
The Tobacco Products and Electronic Delivery Systems Control Bill, which has been working through Parliament, would further strengthen age restrictions. It proposes making it illegal to sell any electronic nicotine delivery system (ENDS) — which includes vapes, pods, and e-cigarettes — to anyone under 18, and would create stricter penalties for retailers who fail to comply. It would also prohibit marketing vaping products in ways that appeal to minors.
For retailers
Krem Vape Studio does not sell to anyone under the age of 18. Age verification is required at checkout for all online orders. We take this seriously — nicotine is an addictive substance and not appropriate for minors or young adults whose brains are still developing.
For buyers
If you’re purchasing online, you’ll be asked to confirm that you’re 18 or older. If you’re purchasing in person at a vape shop, you may be asked to show ID. Don’t ask someone else to buy vaping products on your behalf if you’re under 18 — this is illegal and puts both parties at risk.
Is the minimum age likely to change?
The proposed Tobacco Bill maintains 18 as the minimum age. There have been proposals in other jurisdictions to raise the minimum age to 21, but this has not been proposed in South Africa at the time of writing.
Krem Vape Studio serves adult customers only (18+). Contains nicotine — an addictive substance. Not intended for non-smokers, pregnant women, or persons with cardiovascular conditions.
