How to Use a Pod Vape: Complete Beginner's Guide to Setup, Maintenance and Care
Just got your first pod vape from Krem Vape Studio? This guide walks you through everything you need to know — from the moment you open the box to keeping your device running well for months.
Step 1: What’s in the box
Most pod systems come with:
- The device (battery unit)
- One or two pre-installed or separate pods/coils
- A USB-C charging cable
- User manual
Read the quick-start card or manual before vaping. Every device is slightly different. If anything is missing or visibly damaged out of the box, contact Krem Vape Studio immediately — do not attempt to use a damaged device.
Step 2: Charge before first use
Most devices arrive with a partial charge. Charge to full before using for the first time. This takes 45 minutes to 2 hours depending on the device. Use the provided USB-C cable and plug into a standard USB wall adapter or laptop port.
Charging best practices:
- Use only the cable supplied with the device, or a quality USB-C cable at the correct voltage
- Do not charge at high wattage (fast-chargers for phones can damage vape batteries)
- Do not leave your device charging overnight or unattended for extended periods
- Charge before the battery is completely flat — consistently draining to zero shortens battery lifespan
- Keep the charging port dry and clean at all times (see maintenance below)
Step 3: Fill your pod
Most modern pod systems use top-fill pods — a small silicone plug on the top of the pod lifts or slides to reveal the fill port. On the Vaporesso XROS range, the entire top cap lifts off to expose the fill port — lift it straight up, fill, then press it firmly back down until it clicks.
- Remove the pod from the device
- Open the fill port — lift the silicone cap, slide the cover, or remove the top cap depending on your device
- Insert the nozzle of your e-liquid bottle into the fill port at a slight angle
- Fill slowly until the pod is approximately 80–90% full — leave a small air gap
- Close the fill port firmly
- Wipe any e-liquid off the outside of the pod before reinserting it into the device
Never overfill. Filling past the max line or the air gap can cause leaking and flooding of the coil.
Step 4: Prime your coil — this step matters
After filling a new pod or a pod with a new coil, wait at least 2–5 minutes before vaping. This allows the e-liquid to saturate the cotton wick inside the coil. Vaping before the wick is fully saturated causes a dry burn — a harsh, burnt taste that permanently damages the coil.
For extra assurance with a brand-new coil, take 2–3 short puffs without activating the device (just drawing air through it) to help pull liquid into the wick before you fire it.
Step 5: Using your device
Draw-activated devices: Simply inhale — the device fires automatically. No button required.
Button-activated devices: Press the fire button while inhaling. Most devices require 5 rapid clicks to power on/off.
Take slow, steady draws rather than hard, fast pulls. Hard draws can flood the coil by pulling e-liquid through faster than it can vaporise, causing gurgling and spitting.
Maintenance: keeping your device in good condition
Keep the charging port dry
The USB-C charging port is the most vulnerable part of the device. E-liquid in the charging port causes corrosion and can permanently damage the device — and this is not covered by the guarantee. Always wipe your hands before charging, keep the port covered when not in use, and never charge a wet or leaking device.
Clean the pod contacts regularly
The gold contact pins where the pod meets the device can accumulate e-liquid residue over time, causing connectivity issues. Use a dry cotton bud or folded tissue to wipe the contacts on both the device and the pod every week or when you notice the device cutting out or not firing.
Store upright
Store your device upright (mouthpiece up) when not in use. Keeping it upright ensures the e-liquid stays in contact with the wick correctly, which helps maintain consistent flavour and prevents the coil from sitting dry between uses.
Keep away from extreme heat
Do not leave your device in direct sunlight, in a hot car, or near a heat source. Heat thins e-liquid and increases the risk of leaking; it also degrades the battery over time. On a hot day, a car interior can reach temperatures well above 50°C — enough to warp pods and push e-liquid out of the coil.
Clean the mouthpiece
Wipe the mouthpiece with a damp cloth regularly. Remove the pod and wipe any residue from the inside of the pod slot to prevent build-up.
When to change your pod or coil
Pods and coils are consumable parts — they wear out and need replacing. Here’s how to know when it’s time:
Signs your coil needs replacing
- Burnt or harsh taste: The clearest sign. A distinct burnt flavour means the coil cotton is spent. Do not continue vaping on a burnt coil.
- Reduced flavour: If your e-liquid tastes muted, flat, or “washed out” compared to when the coil was new, the coil is near the end of its life.
- Gurgling or spitting: Persistent gurgling — even after wiping the contacts and mouthpiece — can indicate a flooded or failing coil.
- Visible darkening: If you can see the coil through the pod, dark or brown discolouration indicates heavy use. A healthy coil should look clean and pale.
- Leaking that won’t stop: A cracked or damaged pod should be replaced immediately. Continuing to use a cracked pod risks e-liquid entering the device.
How long does a pod or coil last?
This depends on how often you vape and what e-liquid you use. As a general guide:
- Regular use (moderate vaper): 1–2 weeks per pod or coil
- Heavy use: 5–7 days
- Light use: 2–4 weeks
Sweet, high-VG, or dark-coloured e-liquids tend to gunk up coils faster than lighter, salt-nic liquids.
3-Month Guarantee: what’s covered and what’s not
All devices purchased from Krem Vape Studio come with a 3-month manufacturer’s guarantee against defects. This covers genuine manufacturing faults — not damage caused by use or misuse.
What the guarantee covers
- Manufacturing defects present at the time of purchase
- Internal component failure unrelated to user handling or liquid damage
- Charging faults caused by a defective port (not physical damage or liquid ingress)
What the guarantee does NOT cover
- Physical damage: Cracks, dents, broken screens, or damage from dropping the device
- Liquid damage: E-liquid that has entered the charging port, battery compartment, or internal components — this is the most common cause of device failure and is entirely preventable
- Burnt coils: Coils and pods are consumable items, not covered by guarantee
- Damage from incompatible chargers: Using the wrong charger or a high-wattage fast charger that damages the battery
- Water or moisture damage
- Damage from modification or tampering
- Normal wear and tear
Important note on liquid damage: E-liquid entering the device is the single most common cause of device failure. It typically occurs from overfilling pods, using cracked or damaged pods, or charging a wet device. None of these scenarios are covered under guarantee. Take care of the charging port in particular — one instance of liquid in the port can permanently damage the device.
If you believe your device has a genuine manufacturing defect within the 3-month period, bring it in to Krem Vape Studio with your proof of purchase for assessment.
Quick reference: common issues and fixes
