How to Choose the Right Vape in South Africa
Dozens of brands, hundreds of flavours, and devices from R79 to R799. The South African vape market is genuinely confusing to walk into. This guide cuts through it and helps you find the right device for your situation, with no upsell. Every price here is what we charge today.
Four questions to answer before you buy

Step 1: choose your device type
Sealed disposables
Pre-filled, pre-charged, nothing to set up. R199 to R349. Best for travel, as a backup, or if you vape occasionally. See disposables.
Pod and battery systems
You keep the battery and swap a sealed flavour pod. No bottles, no filling. Batteries from R79, pods from R99. The halfway house, and the cheapest way in.
Refillable pod kits
Rechargeable battery, refillable pod, bottled liquid. R269 to R799. The cheapest to run if you vape daily, and the only route that gives you full flavour and strength choice. See pod systems.
One thing we should be straight about. We are a pod and disposable retailer. If you are after a high-wattage sub-ohm mod and a rebuildable tank for cloud chasing, we barely stock that end of the market, and you will be better served by a specialist. Everything we recommend below is a pod system or a sealed device, because that is what we actually know and hold depth on.

Step 3: get your nicotine right
This matters more than which device you buy. The wrong strength is the single most common reason someone goes back to cigarettes.
Matching nicotine to device
- Pod systems with nic salt at 20 to 50mg. Cigarette-level satisfaction without the harshness. The right answer for most ex-smokers.
- Disposables. Usually pre-set at 50mg nic salt, with some lines offering lower. Nothing to decide.
- Higher-wattage setups with freebase at 3 to 6mg. Far less nicotine per puff and much more vapour. Not where a switcher should start.

What we would tell you across the counter
- Vaporesso XROS 6 Mini at R429. Best first refillable. No screen, no settings, just an airflow slider. 1600mAh and good for about four days.
- OXVA Xlim Go Lite at R269. Cheapest refillable worth owning, and it still has adjustable airflow. The honest budget pick.
- OXVA NeXLIM Go at R369. Best value in the range. An 1800mAh battery and a 4ml pod means the fewest refills and charges for the money.
- OXVA Xlim Pro 3 at R579. Best all-rounder if you want a screen and adjustable power.
- Bewolk X, battery and sleeve at R155, or R120 for the battery alone. 12K pods at R165 and 30K pods at R260. South African brand, no liquid handling, cheapest route in.
- Bewolk 25K or OXBAR G-Prime 25k, both R289. Best sealed disposables we carry, both USB-C rechargeable.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best vape for a first-time user?
If you want zero setup, a rechargeable disposable like the Bewolk 25K at R289. If you want the lowest monthly cost, a refillable pod kit, and the Vaporesso XROS 6 Mini at R429 is the one we recommend most. If you want to spend as little as possible upfront, a Bewolk X battery and sleeve at R155 with a sealed flavour pod means no bottles and no filling.
Is a pod system cheaper than buying disposables?
If you vape daily, yes, by a wide margin. Judge it on millilitres rather than puff ratings, because the liquid runs out long before the advertised puff count. A 20ml disposable lasts about ten days at 2ml a day, so roughly R870 a month. A refillable on nic salt comes to about R570 a month, and on 120ml longfills closer to R300. A R429 kit pays for itself in about six weeks. If you vape occasionally, disposables genuinely work out cheaper, and we would rather say so. The full maths is here.
What nicotine strength should a smoker start with?
If you were a heavy smoker, 50mg nic salt in a pod system or disposable delivers nicotine efficiently with a throat hit close to a cigarette. Lighter smokers often do better at 20 to 35mg. Starting too low tends to leave people unsatisfied, which is a common reason the switch does not stick, so it is usually better to start higher and come down than the other way round. Can I try devices before buying?
You can see and handle devices at our Pinelands shop, 29 Union Avenue, open Monday to Friday 09:00 to 17:00. There is no pressure to buy on the day, and we would rather you came back with the right device than left with the wrong one. Krem products are also carried by independently run partner stores in Kuils River, Plumstead and Lansdowne, though stock varies at those. If you are ordering online and unsure, message us first with what you smoked and what you are after.
What is the difference between nic salt and freebase e-liquid?
Nicotine salt is smoother at high strengths of 20 to 50mg and absorbs faster, which makes it right for pod systems and ex-smokers. Freebase is harsher at high strengths but works well at 3 to 6mg in higher-wattage devices with bigger clouds. If you are switching from cigarettes, nic salt is almost always the right choice.
Do pods from one device fit another?
Almost never across brands, and sometimes not even within one. Vaporesso XROS pods fit the whole XROS range. OXVA XLIM pods fit the Xlim family, but the NeXLIM Go and the V-Prime each take their own. Voopoo catches people out: the Argus G3 Mini takes Argus V2 pods and the full Argus G3 does not. Check the exact model name before buying replacement pods.
